Three Days After Celtic Get Their Title, The Sevco Fans Still Wait For A Statement.

Sevco fans. Let’s have a wee laugh at them tonight.

Three days after Celtic were awarded their due title, the Ibrox clubs moon-howling fans still expect their club to come out with “all guns blazing”.

They are barking mad. Their club has no stake in our being awarded the title, but that hasn’t stopped their fans expecting fireworks.

I read their forums sometimes in disbelief.

They were convinced that the Ibrox board would be willing to burn down Scottish football rather than accept Celtic winning the league at a meeting of the SPFL executive.

They believed this because the club itself heavily hinted at it and the media amplified that belief with their usual megaphone.

But that doesn’t account for the madness in La La Land, where some of them greeted our title triumph as if it was the moment they’d been waiting for; their logic – flawless as ever – was that this was the moment when the guns would come out.

The guns. Jesus. Every struggle is all-or-nothing over there. Every battle is a war.

They thought this would be the moment for Churchillian defiance; far from being Celtic’s triumph it was to be Ibrox’ finest hour. If this lot didn’t exist, we’d have to invent them.

This evening the wait goes on.

Even the most optimistic of them now wonders when their club will take the matter seriously. The handful of people on their forums who have tried to tell them that the club doesn’t have a legal leg to stand on are being drowned out; I said in a piece earlier in the week that they were going to turn on the club.

They have realised that when their directors voted for the season to end that it was effectively giving us the green light.

They have grasped what that means; their club is flying the white flag. Their fury at that is hilarious. Talk of “fighting funds” and destroying the SFA is all the talk over there. None of this is rational, but we are dealing here with folk who don’t engage reality much.

One of the things they are doing is watching the Hearts forums with great interest. That club’s fans are talking about throwing money together for a series of legal cases; they at least can argue that they face serious difficulties if they are relegated and therefore the cost of the lawyers is less than the costs of the relegation itself.

What is the thinking of the Sevco fans?

That their club must challenge – in court – the Great Conspiracy Of The Unseen Fenian Hand? Could we buy tickets for that, do you think? It would be brilliant to watch it.

In the meantime, we can watch their supporters melt down. On Follow Follow, Facebook and Twitter anyway. Sevcomedia is so febrile right now that they have actually shut their main forums to all but the registered members.

What a pity. Those were often better than the telly.

As Scottish football goes through the current crisis it is important to keep up with developments and the key issues. We are determined to do so, and to keep you informed as well. Please subscribe to the blog.
