‘The View’s Favourite’ is a daily web series that explores the Celtic View team’s fondest Hoops memories on a specific theme. Every Friday, we’ll turn it over to our Twitter followers to vote a winner and be included in an end-of-week round-up.

This week, we’re talking favourite domestic goals. Celtic View Editor, Paul Cuddihy, kicked things off yesterday with Henrik’s chip in a certain 2000 Glasgow derby. Today, View reporter Joe Donnelly turns the clock back further still.

GOALSCORER: Jackie McNamara
GAME: Hibs 0-4 Celtic, December 9, 1995

THERE’S every chance I’ve favoured nostalgia over true opinion here… but Jackie McNamara’s first Hoops goal was a belter all the same.

Born in the mid-80s, the defender’s strike in a 4-0 league win over Hibs at Easter Road in December 1995 is among my first proper memories of following Celtic. I wasn’t in the capital that afternoon, but I near hit the roof watching at home with my dad when McNamara’s wonderfully-taken lob hit the net.

Better still, it rounded-off some wonderful first-touch build-up play between four of my favourite players at the time – Paul McStay, Pierre Van Hooijdonk, Simon Donnelly and Jackie Mac himself – and that green, black and white away strip was a total peach as well.

Further goals from Phil O'Donnell, Big Pierre and Donnelly hit the Hibees for four-wihtout-reply, as Tommy Burns' men returned to Glasgow's East End with maximum points.

Given its age, it’s harder to find decent-quality archive footage of what I still consider to be one of the best domestic goals ever scored in a Celtic jersey, but I was pleased to watch it back recently and realise it’s as good as I remember.

Were all those hours spent trying to recreate this masterpiece in my primary school playground worth it some 25 years ago? The enduring scar on my knee from when I tripped over my laces on the concrete says no. But my passion for the goal and the prospect of winning the first end-of-week vote in this column says YES!
