'The Story Of' is a web series dedicated to small but special tales from Celtic’s illustrious history. Here, we remember the birth, and passing, of an iconic goal celebration.

WAS there ever a more beautiful sight during Henrik Larsson’s seven years at Celtic, than to see the King of Kings celebrating a goal with his arms extended, his mouth agape and his tongue touching his chin?

With 242 goals in 315 appearances in green and white, the Swedish striker is the club’s third greatest goalscorer behind only Bobby Lennox (277) and Jimmy McGrory (468). In turn, we became well-acquainted with his Jar Jar Binks-aping pose, at Paradise and all over Europe.

On the off-chance you've forgotten how the celebration looked, let’s remember this famous derby day finish from two decades ago.

The question is, where did the goal celebration idea come from?

“It just happened,” said Larsson in a 2017 interview with Four Four Two. “I saw a picture of it after a game when I had done it and thought, ‘Why not stick with it?’ But I started getting letters from parents, upset that their kids were running around with their tongues out... so I stopped it.”

Poor Henrik. Still, it was a sight to behold in motion – let’s have another look at a few more.
