SFA issue controversial verdict on Flanagan's appeal

Rangers defender Jon Flanagan has today won his appeal against a two-match ban, after his case was reviewed by the SFA judiciary panel.

STV Sport reports that the panel have decided that the offence in which Flanagan was cited for, the elbow into Scott Brown’s face, did not warrant a red card.

Despite referee Kevin Clancy looking directly at the incident, he only brandished a yellow card at the time.

Rangers since produced a statement in which they claimed they had been ‘singled out’ as a club, with Jozo Simunovic not being punished in the same game at Ibrox.

This is the third time this season where a Rangers player has been cleared of violent conduct against a Celtic player – the only other match was the game at Celtic Park when Alfredo Morelos and Andy Halliday were sent off during the clash and Ryan Kent was banned afterwards.

Flanagan is now free to play in the final league game of the season against Kilmarnock on Sunday.

Celtic have so far refused to make any comment.
