Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers believes the club should never give up on winning the UEFA Europa League, despite an increasing financial gap between the club and other top sides on the continent.

Speaking ahead of tonight’s encounter at home to Valencia, the Hoops boss has set an ambitious tone for what will be an exceptionally difficult test against one of La Liga’s big teams.

Because of that there is a real hunger there for teams to do well in it.

Obviously the Spaniards are playing at a higher level than Celtic, but that kind of record won’t breed confidence and that’s something we should look to take advantage of.

There’s a real hunger to at least navigate one tie post-Christmas in either European competition and some will consider this tie against Valencia winnable despite their resources.

Asked if the Hoops still aim to win the competition, as quoted by The Daily Mail, he said: You always have to believe you can.

Fans will love to hear that kind of hopeful message from the manager, with supporters never giving up belief that if one knockout round can be navigated, then a run can be made in the competition.
