Celtic have had a second bid rejected by Charlton for midfielder Alfie Doughty, after their initial approach was knocked back, according to Herald and Times Sport.

The League One side have rejected the second bid, which is rumoured to be around £400,000, with manager Lee Bowyer saying that his club doesn’t want to lose the player and as such, they will look to hold out for more money for the 20-year-old.

However, Charlton run the risk of losing Doughty for free next summer, with his contract expiring in June 2021, and Neil Lennon will look to offer the midfielder a pre-contract deal if they fail to secure his services this summer.

The Scottish giants are not the only side interested in the Englishman after reports emerged that Luton also saw a bid rejected.

It’s evident that Lennon is a big fan of Doughty, so it may be wise for Celtic to hold out until January to sign the midfielder on a free, however, it’s most likely the Scottish giants will want to strike a deal with Charlton this summer to ensure that he doesn’t go elsewhere/ Regardless of when Celtic make the move for Doughty, he would be a good signing for the Hoops if they can secure his services and it is also a move that is relatively risk-free, given that it seems like the finances involved won’t be too substantial.
