Celtic will wait until January to attempt to sign Preston North End defender Ben Davies on a pre-contract deal, according to Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph.

Celtic may revive their interest in January when Davies will be available to secure on a pre-contract ahead of the expiry of his current deal next summer.

Lancashire born Davies has been at Preston his whole career, making over 100 appearances for the club and has become an integral part of the Deepdale side in the last three seasons.

Lennon would be wise to watch the Davies situation closely, with offers coming in from recently relegated from the Premier League Bournemouth to take the 25-year-old immediately.

The south coast club have reportedly (Mark McAdam) had a £4 million bid rejected, with Preston hoping to hang on to their man and perhaps resolve the contract issues with him.

Despite the interest, Lennon seems happy to bide his time for now and target other areas of the field, in particular, a left-back and a winger, which makes sense given the players he’s already brought in over the summer.

The Hoops remain interested in the centre-back but boss Neil Lennon currently has higher priority positions to fill in his squad.
