When Neil Lennon was announced as Brendan Rodgers replacement, few saw it as a step forward or the move that was required to take Celtic to the next level.

However, with a ten point cushion in the league, knockout football in Europe after Christmas secured in record time, one trophy already in the cabinet and a run of form that has seen the side drop points just once since September, it’s hard to argue against such a set of statistics that point to Lennon doing just that.

The Northern Irishman hasn’t just improved Celtic, since the winter break he has made them unstoppable – 27 goals scored in just 6 games is a phenomenal record and one that has come as the result of a change in formation.

The Parkhead gaffer could’ve rested on his laurels – still top of the league going into the winter break – but decided it was time to make a change in the quest for 9-in-a-row and it’s safe to safe it’s been effective.

Even without Leigh Griffiths and Odsonne Edouard scoring they still managed to put five past hapless Hearts and have the luxury of bringing a player off the bench that has 18 goals and 15 assists to his name this season in the shape of Ryan Christie.

With the league all but won, Lennon can now afford to rest players in preparation for the Europa League fixtures against Copenhagen knowing that he isn’t weakening the team – Christie and Mohamed Elyounoussi were two of the Hoops’ best players in the run up to Christmas and will be dying to get a chance to earn a place in the starting XI again.

Rodgers’ side may have been Invincible but there is an argument that could be made for this version of Lennon’s Celtic being even more dominant such is the conviction with which they are sweeping teams away on their march to a fourth successive treble.
