Interim Celtic manager Neil Lennon has taken a dig at Rangers and their manager Steven Gerrard by pointing out that hiring a ‘big name’ in football does not guarantee success.

Lennon hopes to be appointed as the full-time manager of Celtic at the end of the season but numerous reports have linked the Hoops to ‘bigger’ names in the world of football and there are some sections of the club’s fanbase that want their team to hire somebody other than Lennon.

He then took the opportunity to have a bit of a go at those people who want a ‘glamour’ signing before getting in a little jab at Rangers and Gerrard.

Rangers brought in a big name this year.

Lennon, as reported by the Telegraph, says that he accepts that fans, especially those who use social media, are allowed to voice their opinions and that even securing the treble by winning the Scottish Cup won’t guarantee that he will be hired on a full-time basis.

They’ve got no trophies to show for it – so it doesn’t guarantee it.

But it’s the modern-day fan.
