Celtic manager Neil Lennon has revealed that he has “never heard” of young prospect Sergio Quintero, casting huge doubt over the midfielder’s hopes of joining the Scottish Champions, according to the Express.

Lennon also said that he hopes Celtic will be active in the transfer market before the start of the season.

The 20-year-old midfielder recently expressed a strong interest in moving to Parkhead this season from Ecuadorian outfit Imbabura SC.

However, Lennon squashed any speculation of the Ecuadorian ever donning the green and white hoops of Celtic, saying that he was not even aware of the midfielder, who excelled in this summer’s U20 World Cup in Poland with Ecuador who got all the way to the semi-finals of the tournament.

Talking to the media recently, Quintero said: It would be very difficult to adapt to life in a country like Scotland, but with time I think I would be able to settle in.

The more quality we have, the better chance we’ve got.

Midfield looks to be the priority with the impending departure of midfielder Olivier Ntcham who is set to leave ahead of the new season.
