IT was a magnificent seven for Celtic at K-Park on Sunday as they continued their push for a second-place finish with an emphatic victory over Forfar Farmington.

Goals from Sarah Ewens, Chloe Craig and Cheryl McCulloch complimented doubles from Kathleen McGovern and substitute Josephine Giard.

Celtic pressed Forfar from the off, and were rewarded for the efforts after only nine minutes. Ewens opened the scoring with a touch of finesse, collecting the ball on the left and racing towards the opposition goal before firing it high into the net.

The Hoops’ dominance continued as they carved out chance after chance, but their second didn’t come until the 33rd minute after McGovern was brought down in the area by a heavy tackle. Craig coolly stepped up to convert and give Celtic a 2-0 lead at the break.

Just three minutes into the second half, McGovern made it three, heading in from close-range from a Rachel Donaldson cross.

Celtic remained in control of the game, and just seconds after coming on for Kat Smart, Giard stamped her mark on the game. Ewens turned provider to drift in and square it for Giard who made no mistake, slotting in from close-range on 64 minutes. With seven minutes remaining, Giard scored her second of the game. Latching on to the end of a long ball, she burst forward to pass it into the net with a stinging strike to make it 5-0.

Three minutes later, McGovern also completed her brace. Kodie Hay linked up with Keeva Keenan on the left, before the full-back delivered an inch-perfect ball for McGovern to again head in from close-range.

In the last moment of play, McCulloch completed the rout with the magnificent seventh, finishing at the back post from a corner.

The win sets Celtic up nicely for this weekend’s Scottish Cup quarter-final showdown with Glasgow City.

CELTIC: Logan, Keenan, Crosbie (McCulloch), Cox, C Craig, Clark, Ross (E Craig), Donaldson (McBrearty), Smart (Giard), Ewens (Hay), McGovern.

Subs: Cunningham, Hodges
