Former Arsenal and Celtic player Charlie Nicholas has been discussing Celtic’s ninth title in a row which was awarded to them earlier this week, and he believes that Odsonne Edouard and Fraser Forster have been crucial to seeing the club achieve this great feat.

By winning nine in a row, the Hoops have matched a record which they have not achieved since 1974, per Transfermarkt, and if they are able to win ten consecutive titles, they would be doing something unimaginable as no side has ever managed this achievement in Scotland before, per talkSPORT.

Writing for the Daily Express about their success and who has been important to it, Nicholas said, according to The Scottish Sun: “The rebirth of Odsonne Edouard and Fraser Forster’s return were key to Celtic securing nine-in-a-row.”

1 of 10 How many goals did Chris Sutton score for the club?

It is hard to disagree with the Sky Sports pundit here as Edouard’s 22 goals in 27 league appearances means he is the top goal scorer in the division and puts him nine ahead of Jermain Defoe in second, via BBC Sport. It also gives him a remarkable ratio of one goal every 96 minutes in the current campaign.

Yes No

Meanwhile, since Fraser Forster has returned on loan from Premier League side Southampton, per Transfermarkt, he has made 28 appearances in the division, and only conceded 17 goals, whilst also keeping 14 clean sheets, which is the joint most in the division, per SPFL.

Even though it was not in the league, his importance to the side can be easily highlighted by his heroic performance in the Scottish League Cup final victory against Rangers, as he saved a penalty whilst also making many great saves whilst the Hoops were down to ten men to keep a clean sheet and this was crucial as the Celts manage to win 1-0 and reclaim the trophy, per The Guardian.

To be successful, you have to score a lot of goals whilst also being strong at the back, and by having Edouard and Forster in their starting eleven this campaign, Celtic have had the best goal scorer and joint best goalkeeper (on clean sheets) in the division, and without them, it might have been a lot harder for the club to come away with the title.

Celtic fans, do you think you could have won the league without them two in the side? Comment below!
