Neil Lennon is looking to strengthen his squad in January and The Athletic’s Celtic reporter Kieran Devlin believes that central midfield could be a potential priority for the Hoops boss.

While Devlin did not mention names in the live Q&A, and revealed that nothing is 100 per cent set in stone for the January window, he believes that Lennon will be looking to strengthen his central midfield options in the New Year.

The suggestion that Lennon is not only looking to strengthen in midfield, but also a “few” positions is certainly a positive for Celtic.

I know Neil Lennon has come out and said he wants to strengthen in a few areas – and nothing 100 per cent confirmed of course – but I’m confident that central midfield is one of them, if not a priority.

Do Celtic need to strengthen in midfield in January?

Adding another option in the centre of midfield appears vital for Celtic, in order to allow the likes of Scott Brown and Callum McGregor to be rotated out of the side while still keeping a strong midfield on the pitch.

Furthermore, after a strong start in the Europa League group stages, Celtic will be hopeful of progressing into the knockout stages.
