Mikael Lustig has opened up about the differences of playing for Celtic and Gent following his move to the Belgian club, and his comments suggest it was right for him to leave in the summer.

According to 67 Hail Hail, Lustig spoke to Swedish outlet Fotbollskanalen whilst away on international duty about the “extreme” differences between Celtic and Gent.

There are extreme differences. Celtic is an extremely large club and means a lot to the people in Glasgow. Life in Gent is different. It is clear that may people care but it is not straightforward that people know who I am when I go into town.

So in that way there’s a difference. It is pretty nice. I have lived under that pressure for eight years. I liked it at certain times, but it’s nice not to feel that if we lose then I can’t go out and check out a restaurant for a few weeks. That particular feeling can be quite nice.

Lustig’s comments certainly suggest that leaving Celtic in the summer was the right move for him.

The Sweden international appears to be enjoying the lack of pressure that comes with playing for Gent after a long and successful spell of thriving under it with Celtic.

At and 32-years-old, that is certainly understandable.

Lustig is reaching an age where many footballers begin to wind down their careers or start to think about what their next step may be, and while he no doubt misses aspects of Glasgow and playing for the Hoops, the summer move appears to have worked well for him.
