AS the 2019 Hail Hail Trail kicks off today, Celtic supporters across the globe will begin clocking up the miles in support of our dementia care projects. And there is still time to sign up, no matter where you are in the world.

The Hail Hail Trail is a virtual walking challenge in which participants are tasked with walking 130 miles over the course of six weeks. It will celebrate the Club’s most famous achievement, when 11 Bhoys, born within 30 miles of Celtic Park, triumphed in the 1967 European Cup final.

The virtual walk will begin at the birthplace of Ronnie Simpson and will continue through each birthplace of the starting XI in Lisbon, ending in Burnbank, where Jock Stein was born.

Averaging at just over three miles per day, participants can clock up their mileage on the go, using their phones or trackers to capture progress along the way. How and where you wish to walk your 130 miles is completely up to you.

One of those who has already signed up is California-based Hoops fan, Caroline Burns.

Caroline spoke of her love for Celtic and her motivations for signing up for the Hail Hail Trail. She said: “A little over seven years ago, a dear friend and neighbour introduced me to Celtic Football Club, Brother Walfrid's amazing work and some fellow Celtic supporters. I have been hooked ever since!

“I watch most of the games with the San Francisco CSC and when I can’t make it to watch them, I try to follow the games through live updates on Twitter. I also read a lot about the club online and technology has made keeping up with Celtic much easier.

“The Hail Hail Trail was an initiative that really interested me. As a supporter living overseas, it allows me to feel connected to both the club and the Foundation, even though I'm so far away.

“It's a challenge that I feel I can push myself to accomplish and it’s all for a good cause. I also get to learn more about Celtic's history and the people that have contributed to the Club's ongoing success. The fact that the funds are devoted to Celtic FC Foundation’s dementia care projects was also a huge factor.

“Dementia has touched my life, as well as the lives of my friends and relatives. It's greatly misunderstood and takes a toll on everyone involved. I can only hope that everything we do to support this cause will help ease the burden on others that are being affected by dementia and their loved ones.”

To participate in the Hail Hail Trail, all we ask is that you commit to raising a minimum of £130 (after entry fee) for Celtic FC Foundation. We will provide a sponsorship pack and all participants will receive a Hail Hail Trail wristband on completion of the challenge.

Registration is open and you can sign up HERE

You must be 13 years of age or over, in order to take part and participants under 18 years of age must have consent/approval from their parent or legal guardian.

Upon registration you will receive further information on how to record your Hail Hail Trail progress via the website and apps.

The non-refundable registration fee is £15 per person. Please ensure you read the TERMS AND CONDITIONS thoroughly, before registering.

Participants can begin recording their progress along the Hail Hail Trail from today, and the challenge will end on Saturday, May 25, to mark the anniversary of the Bhoys’ Lisbon triumph.

Monies raised will be devoted to the Foundation’s projects supporting those with dementia and their families/carers, allowing us to maintain, develop and enhance our current provision.

Due to the phenomenal support received through 2017’s #LionsLegacy fundraising campaign, we now deliver projects in Glasgow and Edinburgh – in partnership with Alzheimer Scotland and The Eric Liddell Centre respectively - which aim to trigger positive impacts on health and wellbeing, to encourage improved social interaction and behavioural stability.
