Celtic have announced that Mohamed Elyounoussi will remain at the club after a new season-long loan deal was agreed with Southampton.

Elyounoussi joined the Hoops late on in last year’s summer transfer window. He came with a lot of excitement, having actually impressed against the club a few years prior to joining for Molde in the 2015/16 Europa League campaign.

The Norwegian had a particularly impressive start to life at Celtic, grabbing an assist in his first game at the club. Between September-November he was a stand out winning player of the month in between this time.

One of his best performances for the club came against Hibernian in the League Cup semi-final contributing in four goals, scoring two and setting up another two in a game we won 5-2

Unfortunately, in December Moi was ruled out for a large period of time, with a foot injury which he picked up on International duty. It was made worse when he was ultimately rushed back for the League Cup final against Rangers and was subbed off at half-time in that game.

He did come back in time before the season was cut short, featuring in a few more games for the club from February onwards but not quite having the same impact due to fitness.

With Mohamed Elyounoussi now officially signed up for another season, this shows huge intent by the club to get a player of his quality back, even if it is only for one more season.

It is crucial that we keep all our major players going into such an important campaign and by keeping Elyounoussi we have done that.

Hopefully we can see an injury free season from him at his absolute best, which will  be a terrifying thought for all clubs across the Scottish Premiership.
