His former Chelsea team-mate Joe McLaughlin has told The Herald Clarke should be a ‘stick-on’ for the job.

Clarke called out the bigotry coming from Ibrox a few months back when he was subjected to the vilest abuse on the touchline as he tried to do his job.

It’s a shame that has to be a factor in who becomes the next Celtic manager.

Right now, it appears Neil Lennon is in pole position to retake the job with the Irishman telling fans Dermot Desmond hasn’t spoken to anyone else.

The Kilmarnock boss has done a fantastic job at Rugby Park but after his comments on that night, it’s unlikely he would want to get involved in the Celtic gig because that kind of abuse would only intensify.

The manager was visibly upset at the comments coming from the stands and said he could not stand it.

Neil Lennon has been subject to the abuse for years but can thrive under it at times.
