Celtic forward Oliver Burke is set to be recalled to the Scotland squad, two years after winning his last cap for the national team, as reported by The Scottish Sun.

Burke has scored three times and assisted twice in seven matches for the Hoops since joining on loan from West Bromwich Albion in January.

His form has been exceptional and he is in line to start our crucial UEFA Europa League clash against Valencia on Thursday night.

The Scottish Sun reckon it’s been impressive enough for Alex McLeish to bring him back into the international fold, having last appeared for his country in March 2017 against Canada.

Scotland face Kazakhstan and San Marino in Euro 2020 qualifying next month and Burke will be a welcome option considering the only strikers available are Steven Naismith and Steven Fletcher.

Burke has played five times for the national team but was dropped by previous manager Gordon Strachan, continuing his development with the U21s side.

Given our heavy schedule, it’s probably not ideal for us that the 21-year-old be heading away on international duty, but it’ll be a welcome boost for the player and can only aid his personal progression, which is why he came to Glasgow in the first place.
