Celtic’s signing of David Turnbull looks set to “accelerate” Callum McGregor’s exit from the club, according to the Scotsman.

The midfielder was a key figure during the Ulsterman’s tenure at Parkhead and has come through the youth system at Celtic, going on to win five Scottish Premiership titles, three Scottish Cups and three Scottish League Cups.

The Hoops have agreed a deal to bring Turnbull to Parkhead from Motherwell this summer, for a reported £3million.

While the signing of the young midfielder is exciting, it looks likely that it will pave the way for McGregor to leave.

Turnbull’s arrival means Celtic are now “more willing to consider any bids” from Premier League clubs for McGregor.

The 26-year-old is being hotly-tipped to join former Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers at Leicester City.

It is Leicester who are favourites to sign McGregor, however, due to his connections with Rodgers.
