Mikael Lustig is fighting for his Celtic future in the second half of the season, admitting he would love to stay at the Hoops despite his expiring contract.

But I hope to stay at Celtic.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, the 32-year-old said of his future: I have a contract with Celtic and hope to extend here.

He is determined to fight for his Hoops future, but admits it is not in his hands, with the club yet to make a decision on whether take up an option on a further year.

The Swedish international’s current deal is up in the summer and with many fans calling for a new signing to be made in the right-back position, his future at Celtic Park is very much in doubt.

He doesn’t exactly sound confident of staying beyond this season and that might be the best for all concerned considering his drop in ability over the last 18 months.

The club have been on the hunt for a new right-back, linked with a number of them over the last two transfer windows, so it appears that Brendan Rodgers agrees.
