Celtic defender Hatem Abd Elhamed could be set to miss the club’s clash with Rangers in the Betfred Cup final after suffering a groin injury.

Elhamed will now need to work hard in order to be fit for the final against Rangers, which is in just over three weeks’ time.

Has Elhamed been Celtic's best signing this season?

If he does miss out, teenage right-back Jeremie Frimpong looks set to take his place.

According to The Daily Record, Elhamed is poised to be out of action for three weeks after picking up the knock during Thursday’s memorable night in Italy against Lazio.

Frimpong could now have three weeks to prove to Lennon that he deserves to play in the final against Rangers, before Elhamed returns to the side.

Losing Elhamed for the final would be a big blow for Neil Lennon.
