Celtic reportedly face competition from Championship clubs in their bid to sign Middlesbrough striker Britt Assombalonga this summer.

According to Pete O’Rourke of the Football Insider, a Celtic source has revealed that Assombalonga is a target ahead of the 2019-20 campaign but they are being challenged by Championship duo Cardiff City and Bristol City.

Aged 26, Assombalonga is entering his prime years and may be looking to take on a whole new challenge in maintaining Celtic’s status as Scotland’s dominant club under Lennon.

Would you like to see Assombalonga at Parkhead?

The DR Congo international has scored 115 goals in 278 in English football whilst representing Southend United, Peterborough United, Nottingham Forest and, of course, Boro.

Boro are looking to cash in on players to make up for unsuccessful windows of spending big while failing to gain Premier League promotion and Assombalonga is attracting heavy interest.

It’s understandable that Hoops manager Neil Lennon will be looking to take the strain off last season’s top goalscorer Odsonne Edouard to supply Celtic with goals.
