Celtic have made an offer to Ligue 1 side Brest for midfielder Haris Belkebla, according to a report from Le Buteur, as translated by Sport Witness.

Last week, Gregory Lorenzi, the sporting director of the French side made it clear that Belkebla was not for sale following the reports that Rangers were interested in him, but Celtic have apparently joined the race to sign the 26-year-old.

According to the report, the Hoops have made an offer of an unspecified amount to Brest for the Algerian international, one they hope will tempt Brest to change their mind and let the player leave.

The report suggests that Belkebla would be keen on a move as he looks set to take the next step in his career as he’s about to enter what should be his peak years as a player.

Celtic, in truth, have plenty of midfielders in their squad, so it remains to be seen if they are very keen to get into a transfer tussle with Rangers and RC Lens, both of whom have shown an interest in Belkebla.

However, as we saw last season, Neil Lennon’s squad, whilst able to dominate Scottish football, weren’t able to make the type of impact they wanted in Europe so adding an experienced player like Belkebla could be a good idea as the Hoops look to make a mark in the Champions League.
