Celtic icon Davie Hay is hoping that Leigh Griffiths can make a return to first-team training at Lennoxtown as soon as possible, even suggesting a cameo sub appearance before the end of the season, as reported by The Evening Times.

It goes without saying that no pressure should be put on Griffiths’ shoulders with regards to a return, and Hay points that out too, but it would be fantastic to see the prolific striker start working towards a first-team place again.

As quoted by The Evening Times, the Hoops legend said: I am not sure if he is working on his own in terms of physical work but that sense of isolation can become heavy.

Griffiths hasn’t featured for the Hoops since 8th December, taking a hiatus from football to deal with off the field problems.

Hay though, stressing he is commenting strictly as an outside without knowledge of the situation, feels that a return to training could be to his benefit, finding comfort in the camaraderie of squad life.

I think we have seen this season that Odsonne Edouard has established himself as the first choice striker but Celtic have been short up front.

Hopefully we see the 104-goal forward back sooner rather than later.
