Scottish champions Celtic are hoping to sign former Barcelona and Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure, according to a report on The Scotsman.

Reports in Greece are claiming that Celtic have made an offer to the 35-year-old midfielder to sign him this month.

Toure left Greek side Olympiakos last month and has been without a club since, meaning he would be available to sign on a free transfer.

Yaya’s brother, Kolo, is part of the Celtic coaching staff and he could play a key part in persuading his brother to move to Scotland.

The midfielder has been looking for a move to a top European club but has not had any luck yet, which has encouraged Celtic to make their move for him.

Signing Toure would be a massive boost for Celtic going into the second half of the season and a man of his experience could be vital in helping Celtic to the league title this year.
