Celtic interim boss Neil Lennon has hit back at claims that he would be unable to take on the Hoops job permanently, pointing to his previous title wins with Celtic as proof he could take the job.

Lennon has attracted criticism after Celtic fell to a 2-0 defeat to Rangers last week, leaving Steven Gerrard’s side only six points off the Northern Irishman’s side.

Despite having the title wrapped up, many have criticised Lennon’s time in charge of the Hoops, and are calling for a new man to be appointed this Summer.

However, Lennon has fired back at his critics, saying that his accolades with the Hoops in his two spells in charge of Celtic show he has the mettle to take the job full-time next season.

Speaking via the Daily Record, Lennon said: I think that gets overlooked.

If we win the cup that will be my seventh cup and any time we lost the league that I have been involved in it was on the last day of the season.

Lennon’s Hoops take on Hearts this weekend, in what could be the former Celtic midfielder’s last game in charge of his side.
