Dundee United are standing firm over the future of Lawrence Shankland this month, amid interest from Celtic and Rangers.

The Express claims that the Scottish Championship side value the player at £2 million following his goalscoring exploits this season.

Far and away the top goalscorer in the Scottish Championship (BBC), Shankland is a wanted man this month – but the Express say United are refusing to sell.

As frustrating as it may be for Neil Lennon and Steven Gerrard, Dundee United’s decision to hold onto the striker until the summer at least could be seen as very smart business from the club.

The Tangerines are seemingly walking away with the league title and Shankland is now a fully-fledged Scottish international (transfermarkt) – if he continues in this vein of form, his value is likely to be heading in only one direction.

If the club were to sell at the reported £2m, it could be considered as a great piece of business having only signed the player from Ayr United back in July (BBC).

However, the more goals that Shankland scores, the higher that potential value could go and with a view to next season, United will be hoping to pocket as much money as possible for the striker.
