However Football Insider have now been informed by “a Newcastle source” that the 5ft 8in Thomson has snubbed a move to both Celtic and Rangers after agreeing personal terms with the Premier League side.

And with the Daily Record confirming Celtic have already secured the signing of fellow youth talent Bruno Davidson this month, adding Thomson to the list of young and promising players Celtic have at their disposal would have been a positive in my view.

Do you think Celtic have missed out on Thomson?

According to the Evening Times, Celtic have previously expressed an interest in signing the Queens Park midfielder, while Rangers were also linked.

Thomson was unlikely to have been one of Celtic’s priorities for the January window, given his age and lack of first-team experience, with the teenager having made just nine appearances for Queens Park this season.

The youngster has already shown glimpses of his potential for Scotland’s Under-17s, with the Evening Times revealing he registered two assists earlier this season in a crucial 2-1 win to send the young Scots through to the U17 European Championships in March.

However missing out on the emerging Scottish talent is a slight blow in my opinion.
