ON May 21, 2017, three years ago today, Celtic Park paid tribute to the Lisbon Lions with a stadium-wide display that marked the heroics of Jock Stein’s men half a century before. That afternoon, the modern day Hoops also celebrated Trophy Day by capping off a full league season unbeaten.

By defeating Ian Cathro’s Hearts 2-0 – courtesy of second half strikes from Leigh Griffiths and Stuart Armstrong – the Bhoys set themselves up well for their Scottish Cup final encounter with Aberdeen at Hampden six days later.

At Paradise, Griffiths’ 50th minute goal saw the striker header home a fine Patrick Roberts cross from the right, while Armstrong’s on 76 minutes saw the midfielder pounce on a loose box inside the box to fire high into the net and put his side out of sight.

“We still have another important game to play so hopefully there will be big celebrations next week and we will look forward to the game,” Man of the Match-winner Patrick Roberts told the Celtic View. “We have the same focus and same mindset going into every game and we will go into the final in the same way.

“I’m feeling good and confident at the moment. As a player you need to feel good about yourself when you go into a game as when you feel confident and positive, you do what you do best and that’s hopefully what I have done. I am enjoying my football just now.

“As a player you thrive on games and form and you become a better player for it. I have come on leaps and bounds in the time I have been here, so thanks to the players and the staff here who have all been amazing. It’s been a good year but it’s not over year we will look to finish it strongly."
